Kayla A Clayton MSW, LCSW, APSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Illinois and an Advanced Practice Social Worker in the State of Wisconsin.  I work with individuals, groups, and couples who are having a wide range of emotions or concerns which I provide therapy services. My private practice includes diverse populations including young children, adolescents, adults and geriatric individuals. I also provide therapeutic services in the homes of older adults who are homebound and in retirement facilities that I am associated with.

I earned my Bachelor’s in Social Work (BSW) at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois and continued my education at Aurora University to earn my Master’s in Social Work (MSW) in Aurora, Illinois.  I am a member of the National Association of Social Workers, Illinois Counseling Association and the Illinois Mental Health Counseling Association. I am the recipient of the following awards: MacMurray College Dean’s List, MacMurray College Social Work Honor Society Member, Recipient of the American Legion Scholarship, 2013 Illinois Healthcare Association Social Work Nominee and a LCSW supervision provider.

I have an intensive clinical experience in mental health and medical social work. My mental health experience started in a state operated mental health hospital serving adults and geriatric individuals who were struggling with chronic mental health diagnoses including psychotic disorders, personality disorders, mood disorders, addiction and forensic concerns. I also worked as a child and family therapist at a community mental health agency in Rockford, Illinois serving children and adolescents with issues regarding depression, panic disorders, psychotic disorders, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, ADHD/ADD, grief/loss, Bipolar Disorder, Adjustment Disorder and PTSD. My clinical experience in the medical field of social work included roles as a dialysis social worker, a hospice social worker and hospital psychiatric social worker. During my experience in the medical field, I treated individuals and families on end of life issues, aging concerns, grief/loss, health issues, intimacy issues, death and bereavement, advance directive planning, depression, chronic mental illness, healthcare planning and discharge planning.

I believe in an integrated approach to evidenced based therapy including CBT, Solution Focused, Client Centered, Group Therapy, EMDR and Psychodynamic Therapy to teach clients how to overcome emotional distress. I believe with the support, guidance, and tools taught that you can live a fulfilling life that will last forever.
